The work began in July and the beaches are being replenished starting at the northern end, east of Commonwealth wrapping around the point and extending all the way to 15th Street in Sea Isle City. SIC will also have 40th-52nd Street replenished. Dredging crews work 24/7 and move about 200 feet per day and include a 1000 feet work area with no access permitted. The beaches are open and guarded. Walkways over the pipeline allow access. All sand will come from the Corson's Inlet, it is known as "the borrow area." Strathmere and Whale Beach replenishment is scheduled for completion September 1st, 2009. As the replenishment continues into Sea Isle City, the pipeline will remain on the beaches. Sadly, the northern end west of Commonwealth is not included in the replenishment. |
